Village Gala - A success

The first Whatton and Aslockton Village Gala took place on the 10th July 2010 on the Playing Field.

Whilst the main objective of the event was to raise funds for the development of the Playing Field, the organising committee worked very hard to produce a Community day. Judging by the comments so far received and the attendance on the day (in excess of 400 people attended) that element of the event was achieved.

It is too early at this stage to report on the fund raising result, first indications are that in excess of £1,000 was raised for the Playing Field. If that figure holds true then the fund raising aspect of the day will also have been a success.

The fact that so many local community groups were involved in the event, also contributed to its success:

  • Aslockton Art Club;
  • Aslockton & Whatton Trust;
  • Aslockton Community Association;
  • Aslockton Over 60s;
  • Cranmer Local History Group;
  • Cranmer Youth Club;
  • Scarrington WI;
  • Toddlers Group.

The attendance of the Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and the Nottinghamshire Police Service (in the guise of PCSO Sally Charles) was greatly appreciated.

First Aid support was provided by Belvoir First Aid, a local organisation worthy of your support (for more details see their web site by clicking here).

Rushcliffe Borough Council provided and funded the Climbing Wall and the Break-dance Workshop. Rushcliffe Borough also provided the litter bins and a 'special' waste pick-up for the event.

Thanks are also due to our Borough Councillor, Jacqui Marshall and our County Councillor, Martin Suthers for their financial support for the day. Our thanks also go to the Commercial Sponsors for their support (they were all named on both the Flyer and the Program).

The volunteers who helped on the day, setting-up, manning the various facilities and organising the various events are too numerous to name individually, but without their help and commitment the event could not have happened. But we will be writing to all those who donated their time and effort so freely in due course.

Last but by no means least a big thank you to all those of you who attended. Without you the day would not have been success.
